Pack 279 Pinewood Derby Rules

What Is a Pinewood Derby?

A Pinewood Derby race is an annual Cub Scouting event in which boys race hand-made wooden cars on a specially designed track.  The Pinewood Derby race continues to be a Cub Scout tradition to this day.

Pinewood Derby is not about fast cars or winning a race, It's about kids spending some time with their parents on a project, having a fun pack event, and learning good sportsmanship.

 Derby History

Cubmaster Don Murphy from Pack 280C organized the first Pinewood Derby ever, held in 1953 Manhattan Beach, California at the Manhattan Beach Clubhouse and made Cub Scout history.
